Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Whole milk Can use low-fat if needed
  • 4 Egg yolks Large eggs
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar Adjust to taste
  • 3 tbsp Cornstarch Thickening agent
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Pure vanilla preferred
  • 2 –3 drops Red food coloring Optional

Method
 

Step 1:
  1. Pour the milk into a medium saucepan and warm it over medium heat until steaming. Do not let it boil.

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until pale and smooth.

  1. Add the cornstarch to the egg mixture and whisk until completely lump-free.

  1. Slowly pour a small amount of warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
